Okanagan Food & Travel Writing Retreat: Oct. 7-10, 2011

Conducted with Langara College of Vancouver, Canada

Learn to write with passion about food, wine and travel during this Thanksgiving retreat to Canada’s sunny South Okanagan wine country, led by journalist Remy Scalza (seen in New York Times, National Geographic Traveler, etc). Timed to coincide with the Okanagan Fall Wine Festival, the retreat integrates interactive workshops on writing and storytelling with behind-the-scenes tours of wineries, culinary highlights and wine festival events.  Soak up B.C.’s wine country while gathering first-hand material for your own stories and getting coaching and feedback.

Vancouver for Writers: Saturdays, Sept. 17-Nov. 12, 2011, 11am-2pm

Conducted with Langara College of Vancouver, Canada

Learn the essentials of travel writing while exploring Vancouver with journalist Remy Scalza (seen in New York Times, National Geographic Traveler,  etc).  This course is aimed at aspiring travel writers who want a hands-on introduction to the craft.  Classroom sessions alternate with short fieldtrips to unique destinations around the city, including a chef-led tour of Granville Island Market and a Chinese tea ceremony in Chinatown.  Expect a fun, rigorous introduction to researching, writing and selling travel stories.
